Post Match Reaction: Cushing and Rogers satisfied with share of points.

Following the 1-1 draw between Manchester City and Liverpool both manager’s were both in agreement that a point was a fair result.

Manager Nick Cushing said; “It feels like two points dropped because we are so used to winning but it feels like a point gained because we didn’t play well in the first part of the game. One thing I am very pleased about is that we didn’t feel sorry for ourselves, we’ve picked ourselves up and in the end we had Liverpool hanging on.”

When asked about any tweaks at half time he responded; “I thought that we had to put a foot in, show a will to win and I think Liverpool have done that in both the games we’ve played. They’ve had a real desire to not let us win.”

Tessel Middag, Nikita Parris and Megan Campbell all came on to great effect but Cushing was coy about their impact; “Our style is about getting the ball down and playing so the fans can enjoy it. What you’ve seen today is a different style with a lot more crash, bang, wallop, the long throws and Middag running around.”

Overall he was satisfied with a point; “It isn’t a catastrophe we’ve drawn today, it wouldn’t have been perfection if we’d have won, there will be points won and lost and we’ve just got to work hard this week and prepare for Aston Villa.”

Liverpool Manager Scott Rogers was pleased with his sides performance; “It’s a very good point, Chelsea and City are fighting it out for the title, to come to City and to take a point, we deserved a point and I’m very pleased with it.”

“We’ve done a lot of work, its credit to the girls, they’ve done extra work, we are a young group, we’re learning a lot about each other, we’ve got a lot of talent in the group that’s going to cause teams problems and I felt we’ve done that again today.”

When asked about what he’d learnt from the first game he responded; “Over the two games I’ve done a lot of studying of City’s patterns. I felt for 60 minutes we controlled the game but sides like City are always going to come at you.  I felt we controlled the game, the chances were scrappy at best, we weren’t cut open which you expect the top teams to do. We’re happy with a point and we move on.”

“Well we knew I was City we’d prepare to be playing a block for 90 minutes. To do that was almost playing into their hands so from the word go we came out. We almost scored too early and we sat back a little too much.  In the first half I thought we controlled when we wanted to attack but in the second half they did so , on reflection, a point is a fair result.”
