UWCL Preview: Cushing “We have to play a 9 or 10 to get a result”

Nick Cushing spoke at Manchester City’s Press Conference.

Asked how the Champions League differs from the WSL the Manchester City manager; “It presents a different challenge. We don’t know Brondby’s strategy. They may come to win the game. It’s our last home game so we’ll definitely try and win it. They’re one of the most experienced teams and they’re one of the best teams in the competition.”

When asked if Champions League experience was important Cushing responded: “Players have to focus and concentrate on their own performance.”

“I look at the performances we’ve had. I think we’ll be competitive but to say we’re going to go all the way and win it would be stupid. Each individual has to be a 9 out of 10 to get a result in this competition.”

On Manchester City’s support; “We’ve had an unbelievable following and a really consistent support. They travel to watch us away and we’ll know they’ll be there to support us.”

“It’s down to us as a team to play a style of football that makes people want to come and want to come again.”

Asked if Manchester City were ahead of he schedule: “One thing we knew is, one and off the pitch, we would have to re-assess our strategy as there are ambitious people at the football club.”

On playing home first and whether or not is was an advantage: “I think you have to look at playing at home first as an advantage but it’s only an advantage if we take a lead to Brondby. The aim is to produced a performance that causes Brondby problems both with and without the ball.”

On how City will use the Spring Series in light other managers revelations that they will use it for experimentation:

“We have a 5-a-side league on a Friday that’s as competitive as the WSL. We’ve got a young, hungry and very talented squad. The only problem we have with the break is that we don’t have any games.”
