The lights will be on at Brookburn Road tonight as, in another first for the club, West host the Manchester FA Women’s Cup final as City of Manchester Ladies take on FC United of Manchester Women.
It will be a short trip for City of Manchester Ladies who play their home games on Kings Road in Whalley Range and they will be looking to avenge their loss in the final last season when they were defeated by Manchester Stingers at Irlam FC.
They made amends in that defeat in the Semi Finals when they came from 3-0 down to defeat Stingers 3-1 on penalties following a 3-3 draw at Whalley Range FC. Prior to that they’d beaten GMWFL side Manchester Rovers in the quarter finals by a margin of seven goals to one having beaten future West Didsbury & Chorlton side, Chorltonian Ladies 5-0 in the second round.
FC United had an easier path through the semi-finals as they were awarded a walkover when Middleton Athletic withdrew from the competition. Like COM their path to the final was filled with goals as they defeated Leigh RMI Ladies away 7-1 before demolishing Didsbury 11-0 at home in the second round.
FC United, currently sitting atop of the First Division South ahead of Merseyrail Bootle on goal difference, will be looking to make it 5th time lucky whilst City of Manchester will be looking to add to their previous crowning.
Kick-off tonight is 7pm, admission is £4 for adults, £2 concessions and £1 for kids. The bar is open and everyone is welcome.
