Five Star Langford Hands Stingers Victory…
It was a day to remember for Bet Langford as the striker registered all five goals for Manchester Stingers as they thrashed Blackburn Community 5-1 away. The win lifts the Stingers into fifth and well placed to exceed their points total from last season with 14 games still to play. Stingers travel to Lancashire next Sunday where they face second bottom Accrington Sports and Football Club.
FC earn hard fought quarter final berth…
FC United are into the quarter finals of the Argyle Sports Cup thanks to a 3-1 extra-time victory away to Cammell Laird. However the Rebels were made to work for it as they trailed at half time thanks to a goal scored on the break. They levelled on 47 minutes through Cara Fields but couldn’t find a winner in normal time despite the home side being reduced to 10 players with 15 minutes remaining. The breakthrough came in the 101st minute through Rebecca Foster’s 20 yard effort before Carrington made it safe at the death. Victory keeps FC United’s hopes of a treble alive as they head into the quarter finals.
FC United turn their attention to league football next weekend when they face a tough test away to Warrington Wolverines who currently sit third.
Curzon overcome Bury in thriller…
Extra-time was also needed for Curzon Ashton to overcome Bury in a thrilling Argyle Sports Plate tie. Having fallen 2-0 behind, they roared into the lead with three goals from Keeley Goodwin, Shannon Hayes and Alex Speight. However, as it seemed they’d put their name in the hat for the quarter finals they were denied by a stoppage time own goal. The drama didn’t end there as they scored three times with Izzy Crooks supplying Goodwin for her second, Paris Welsh heading home from a Hayes cross before Goodwin completed her hat-trick with rocket into the top corner. Bury added a fourth late on but the damage was done and Curzon advance into the quarters of the plate.
Its second v fourth next weekend as Curzon welcome Liverpool Marshall Feds Reserves in the NWWRFL Division One South.
The wait goes on for West…
There was confusion aplenty in the Manchester Women’s Cup as the quarter final between West Didsbury & Chorlton and Urmston Meadowside was again postponed. This was despite the NWWRFL side announcing that they’d organised to play at the AJ Bell Stadium with it later emerging that the two sides had been unable to agree on a venue.
Champions one step closer to retaining…
It was more straight forward on the south coast as Manchester City secured their place in the fifth round with a routine 2-0 victory away to WSL2 side Brighton & Hove Albion at the Sussex County FA. Melissa Lawley put the Champions 1-0 up before Claire Emslie made the game safe in the second half.
