Manchester Women’s Challenge Cup – Emphatic victories for Salford City & West Didsbury & Chorlton

 

Salford City eased themselves into the quarter finals of the Manchester Women’s Challenge Cup with a 15-0 win over Cheshire League Championship Division One side Manchester Rovers.

 

It was a day to remember for Chelsea Wharton and Laura Tobin who both scored hat-tricks whilst Fliss Winters and Mia Pemberton both earned braces.  There were also goals for Abby Bennett, Becky Topping, Feiruz Abdullahi, Annabel Ainscough and Ellen Thornton as they extended their winning run into a third competition.

 

West Didsbury & Chorlton registered their second win in the competition and their second win of the season against Didsbury as they defeated them 8-0 at Brookburn Road in the Manchester Derby.

 

There was a first half hat-trick from Elizabeth Livesey who netted three times in seventeen minutes.  In the second half Rachael Dunlop added a hat-trick of her own completing the feat inside 19 minutes.  There were goals for debutant Vicky Lomas, a new arrival from Stockport County, and Chloe Spencer.

 

The weekends other result saw Sale Ladies overcame Swinton 5-3 to ensure that both sides who emerged victorious in the first round (West Didsbury being the other) reached the quarter finals. Urmston Meadowside and Barr Hill was postponed.

 

The Manchester FA have announced that they will be making the quarter final draw in due course.  FC United, Manchester Stingers, Barr Hill (Summer League) and Sale United all received byes.

 

Lancashire Women’s Challenge Cup

 

Blackburn Rovers 14-0 Morecambe

 

There four goals each for Saffron Jordan and Natasha Flint as Lagan Makin also helped herself to a brace.  In addition there were goals for Jess Holbrook, Eve Kennerley, Keyleigh McDonald and Lynda Shepherd as the WNL Northern Champions maintained their 100% start to the season.

 

Wythenshawe Amateurs 0-7 Burnley

 

Katie Halligan gave Burnley the lead with a first time effort before Charlotte Banner doubled their lead from the penalty spot. Leah Embley put the game beyond doubt with two quick fire second half goals to make it 4-0. Embley completed her hat-trick to make it 5-0 Evie Priestley made it 6-0 before Halligan added her second to make it 7-0 and round off the scoring.

 

 

Haslingden 1-8 Blackburn Community

 

Jess Clegg, Kay Unsworth, Daniella Ryan (2), Amy Bland (2), Claire Young and Fiona Dransfield were amongst the goalscorers as Blackburn Community ran out 8-1 winners away to Haslingden

 

Bolton Wanderers 13-0 Bolton Belvedere

 

A four goal haul each from Rosin Havelin and Ruby Howard helped Bolton Wanderers along the way to a heavy win against Bolton Belvedere.  Saf Newhouse earned a brace as Rachael Hindle, Caitlin Knowles and Nicola Worthington registered goals to make it three cup wins in a row for Bolton Wanderers.

 

Fleetwood Town 7-0 Langho

 

Sir Tom Finney, W Chorley and Fylde all reached the quarter finals.
