Manchester Stingers returned to winning ways after three weeks without a game as they defeated Blackburn Community 3-1 at Kings Road. Despite going a goal down the Stingers rallied thanks to two goals from Bet Langford, who continues her terrific goalscoring form, with Alyson Hastie getting the third before the game was called on 75 minutes following a serious injury to the Blackburn goalkeeper.
The result lifts the Stingers to 7th but they must now wait two weeks until their next game when they travel to Wigan Athletic.
In Division One there was a comfortable win for FC United as the Rebels continued to tighten their stranglehold on top spot.
It took some time for the hosts to break down Liverpool Marshall Feds Reserves but the breakthrough came when Yvette Loukes volleyed home two minutes before the break.
The points were made safe on the hour mark when Cara Fields doubled their lead before Jess McCarrick added the third five minutes later. It also saw FC United keep their seventh league clean sheet of the season as they reach the half way mark of their league campaign. A quirk of the fixtures means that they will play eight of their last nine league fixtures away from Broadhurst Park.
FC United head to Northwich Vixens next Sunday as they look to complete their league double having already put double figures past them once this season.
Just down the right there was an emphatic win for Curzon Ashton as they put eight past bottom club City of Liverpool to keep themselves in touching distance of Warrington Wolverines in second. Free scoring Curzon raced into a five goal half time lead thanks to an Amy Smith hat-trick with goals from Keeley Goodwin and Izzy Crooks. They made their victory ever more emphatic in the second half as Goodwin added her second, a goal each from Leoni Harland and Karen Wilkinson. It was the perfect response for the Nash following their defeat away to West Didsbury & Chorlton two weeks ago and sets them up perfectly a tough test to Altrincham this coming Sunday.
The local derby between West Didsbury & Chorlton and Altrincham was postponed due to an unfit pitch. West face a tough trip to Warrington Wolverines next weekend, a side they’ve already faced once this season in the Women’s FA Cup.
